GUIDE TO SELF-SUFFICIENCY

The entrepreneurial idea of MULTIRES is very simple and far from being new: back in the 1970s, the British environmental activist and author John Seymour testified and trained in his ‘The Complete Book of Self-Sufficiency’ how it is possible to live in a totally sustainable way within a relatively small rural area; MULTIRES is rooted in this concept and its innovative side lies in the integration between some knowledge from the past and some management resources, technologies and tools of the present.

The goal is to be able to address our own energy and water demand by 2030 and thus achieve total neutrality between production and direct and indirect consumption of resources, including food (zero or positive net balance). This is done not only to mitigate the environmental impact associated with the entire life cycle of the MULTIRES system, but also to balance the demand for goods and services by the community living in the old rural neighbourhood where the farm is located, which can accommodate up to 15/20 people in at least four separate living units.

SUSTAINABILITY: IS IT POSSIBLE?

Food, water, and energy self-sufficiency that will enable rural living by approaching ‘real’ sustainability, creating a solid foundation of social values, guaranteeing economic security, and applying concrete environmental protection measures.

Likely, within a few years, leaning on such values and evidence will be a fundamental requirement for living freely and independently on our planet. By achieving sustainability and basic resource production independency, MULTIRES intends to equip itself to meet the next future challenges of adapting to energy, food and water scarcity, becoming a safe, albeit small, lifeboat should the need require.
